"I have never seen you in this light"

through the curtains
shone the morning light
i looked at you
slumbering in your peace
the glow
a halo
which accentuated your loveliness

i watched the quilts
rise slowly with
each breath

but it was the light
the glow
which drew me close to you
this morning

- Paul Gilbert

"I have never seen you in this light"

light used to be a faint hope
of the hidden part of my soul
as even the slightest absence
of utter darkness
would allow my feeble eyes
to see in you the goddess
who became a woman

but now
when i see you under this light
i find in you too much of yourself
too much genius, too much strength
and i wonder
where is the slave
that i bought in the flesh market?

"I have never seen you in this light"

i look at you looking at me and i get sick suddenly, my stomach turns and my hands perspire instead of sparks i make a fire it wasnt always this way but my heart was at your dismay, i hear your voice and my heart goes into flight even if ive never seen you in this light

- Amanda McGown
