Birth of Evil
by Duane Locke

Night puts
Its voluptuous arms
Around my house's shoulders.
Night's lustful hair
Falls over my roof.
I open the heavy door
Built by my ancestors,
But the ghosts of my ancestors
Slams it shut.
From the window,
I watch night naked.
Soon, naked night
Is clothed by daylight.
I stayed up too long,
Witnessed the birth of evil.
