THE FALLING OF AUTUMN
by Arthurine B. Rice

Watching leaves fall separately down to play
Like colorful quietly drifting stars
As they tenderly kiss the ground
As if unique objects from Venus or Mars.

Clouds, thick like butter milk biscuits,
Formulate many miles above
Enticing flowers and tall Evergreens
Intoxicating them with raindrops of love.

As if seducing its many lovers,
A light breeze embraces its contacts
Mysteriously caresses and kisses its tangibles
Ceases and waits for them to react.

The sun reveals a face of radiance
But is not ready and willing to
Disturb the clouds and soft rain drizzles
By completely pushing its way through.

The grass smiles graciously
As magical cool raindrops penetrate
Its thirsty, longing hot surface
Inviting intercourse on this perfect date.

Manifestations of a new season
Attempting to quickly embark
Autumn, at this time of quiet anticipation
Has said, I Shall Return, So Forget Me Not.
