INTERNAL INFERNO
by Josh Burden

. Moulded by society and man
. the sculpture stands still.
. never wandering from the way it should be,
. being seen only the way they want it to be.
. the people pass and glance at it quickly.
. it looks like all the others, just stone,
. but it is not.
. deep within the cold, hard rock,
. a fire burns.
. raging red flames inside the steady grey stone.
. as each person passes the fire burns stronger.
. over time there grows cracks, pieces get chipped,
. until eventually the shell can no longer hold strong.
. all at once the internal inferno
. blazes forth
. blowing away
. all that existed before
. it is now that the world sees the truth
. and never will it be the same,
. and never will it be forgotten.
