Night Time Fears
by Sharon Alsop

The night seeps through the door
Lights blazing to erase the black
I feel the chill silently advance
Long thin threads reach forth
Trying to creep in quiet silence
Around bright patches of protecting light
I stand guard over my protector
Fighting off the inky blackness infiltrating
In watchful terror I see its approach
And shield myself against its stealthy intrusion
The cold empty blackness frightens me
Attacking my fears and slipping inside
Shadows dance around my ray of light
Until courage arises and I send the night
Back out into the depths of starlight
Safe again from this nightly invasion
I lay to rest my weary head
