standing in a field
by Preston Holston |
|
standing in a field
where you can see clear
into tomorrow
and the closest thing to a building
is the ant mound
below the apple tree
atop the hill
many a day we set up camp beneath this tree
as children we would race to it
just to touch it
then d a r t
off
to the stream
(for the last one in
was a rotten egg)
and we would run
leaving a trail of laughter
down the hill
and clear across our childhood
